Eligibility Requirements

Common Criteria for All Streams

  • Employer must be an Approved Work Sponsor
  • Employer must lodge a valid nomination for the occupation
  • The role and your intention to work must be genuine
  • You must have the skills, qualifications, and experience for the nominated occupation
  • Hold adequate health insurance
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Satisfy Public Interest and Special Return criteria
  • Meet specific Nomination Criteria and Visa Criteria for the relevant stream

Core Skills Stream

  • At least 12 months of full-time work (or equivalent) in your nominated occupation within the last 5 years
  • Skills Assessment may be required (depending on the occupation)
  • English language proficiency: minimum IELTS 5 overall, with at least 5 in each band (or equivalent test). Certain passport holders are exempt
  • Must be employed directly in your nominated role within your sponsor’s business

Specialist Skills Stream

  • At least 12 months of full-time work (or equivalent) in the nominated occupation within the last 5 years
  • English language requirement: minimum IELTS 5 overall, with at least 5 in each band (or equivalent test). Exemptions apply for certain passport holders
  • Must work in the nominated occupation within your sponsor’s business or associated entity

Labour Agreement Stream

  • The nominated occupation must be covered by a labour agreement between your employer and the Australian Government
  • At least 12 months of full-time work (or equivalent) in the nominated occupation within the last 5 years
  • Suitable English proficiency for the nominated occupation
